About Us

Offering a thoughtfully curated collection of clothes and accessories, The Mews is a free-spirited shopping destination, where up-and-coming international labels are housed alongside established brands.

In October 2008, Julie Iacobescu opened The Mews with the aim of creating a local fashion boutique with an independent spirit. Her intention was to open a store in which her clients would feel encouraged to spend an afternoon discovering all the eclectic possibilities found in a secret and cherished closet. Julie was born in Toronto to Romanian parents, and after living in New York, London and Paris, she fell in love with Bucharest and chose it to be home to The Mews.

Located in the center of Bucharest, nestled just off of Piata Dorobanti, the store itself features furniture that Julie has collected specifically to reflect and enhance the clothes. From a table with train wheels bought at the Marché Aux Pouces in Paris, to an antique linen press from London, to a fringed lamp from Denmark, to armoires she painted with her friends and family, every detail was designed to highlight the brands she has chosen to carry.

Each brand was chosen for a shared independent spirit, whether it was a husband and wife who started a business or a stylist who started making her own clothes or even a company with 60 plus staff that still makes you feel like you’re talking to a friend when you call. Almost all of the brands were created from 2000 onwards with a similar ethos about capturing the female spirit through clothing.

In December 2008, Elle Magazine wrote, "The Mews is a friendly, warm, and lovely place where you can spend several hours trying on every piece in the collections". Please stop by and see for yourself.
