Launched in Sydney, Australia in 2006, denim brand 18th Amendment takes its name from the 18th Amendment of the American Constitution passed in 1920, prohibiting the consumption and production of alcohol. The spirit of the brand is derived from the speakeasy culture of the 1920s/30s resulting from this ban.
Each style of jean is named after classic icons of the silver screen and beyond (such as Lollabrigida, Monroe, and Hayworth) referencing feminine style and the gritty glamour of that time. The brand is easily recognizable by its signature winged art-deco logo, found on every back pocket and inspired by the elegance of the Rolls Royce "Flying Lady". 18th Amendment is a blend of modern and vintage fit, finishing and detailing. "We wanted to create a denim label that referenced vintage denim in a way that made it fresh, modern and relevant to today." Rebecca Dawson - 18th Amendment Creative Director. The jeans have often been spotted on celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Kate Hudson, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
